Pike discusses instrument development at the Field Observing Facility and his work at the Research Systems Facility, specifically the development of PAM I; his involvement in the Line Islands Experiment as field program manager on Christmas Island; and the purpose for creating instrument standards at NCAR. Pike also comments on the priority at NCAR given to the development and improvement of instruments and his admiration for instrument scientist Gerald Gill.
