In this interview, Devrie Intriligator, Senior Research Physicist at the Carmel Research Center Incorporated discusses her work in plasma physics and space weather. She discusses her experiences dealing with sexism as an undergraduate student pursuing physics in the late 1950s and its frequent reappearance throughout her career. Intriligator details her time working under Bruno Rossi at MIT on the study of cosmic rays and her work attempting to build a plasma analyzer with Gene Parker. She describes her first postgraduate job at NASA Ames working with a plasma analyzer, as well discovering the length of the magnetic field of the Earths tail. She discusses her time at the Carmel Research Center and her efforts to attain the Voyagers and the subsequent research conducted on them during her time there. Intriligator reflects upon the Cold War and having Roald Sagdeev visit the Carmel Research Center and his eventual collaborative relationship with the Center. Lastly, she discusses how the field of space plasma physics has evolved over time, as well as the interplay between space plasma physics and space weather.
