In the light of importance of carbon related research in the current world scenario, an effort was made to collate the latest carbon based research contributions in India and abroad. As a consequence, the National Conference on Carbon Materials 2012 (CCM12) was convened by Prof. D. Sathiyamoorthy, the Powder Metallurgy Division, Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, India in collaboration with the Indian Carbon Society, Maharashtra Chapter (Mumbai) India, from November 1st to November 3rd, 2012 in Training School Complex, Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai, India. The main highlight of the conference was dedicated technical sessions on carbon composites, carbon in energy, environment and nuclear applications including simulation of carbon based materials.
