Abstract

In 1996, AT & T spun off most of AT & T Bell Labs and its equipment manufactor business and created Lucent Technologies, Inc. As part of these changes, most development departments were combined into the business divisions of Lucent Technologies, but the research functions remained with Bell Laboratories, which became known as Bell Labs Innovations until it's merger with Alcatel in 2007.
