Joseph Foladare, B.S. Caltech (physics) 1930, Ph.D. (English) Yale in 1936. During World War II, Foladare served as the Supervisor of the Editorial Section for the Caltech Rocket Project. For his service during the war, Foladare received the Presidential Certificate of Merit. In 1946, Foladare returned to Santa Barbara, where he was the first chairman of the English Department to be appointed by the University of California. He retired from UCSB in 1974.
