Edwin W. Dennison (1928-2012) pioneered the use of electronics systems and computers for telescopes. He was a staff member of the Mount Wilson and Palomar Observatories and from 1966 head of the Observatories Astro-Electronics Laboratory on the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) campus. He is best known for the photomultiplier tube.
