The collection contains constitution and by-laws (1980-1985), committee records (1975-1993), meeting minutes, programs, and agenda (1977-1988), chapter records (1975-1995), correspondence, newsletters, financial records, articles and clippings, printed materials, photographs, slides, and posters. Subjects include career development for women in geophysics, organizations relating to women in science, and the ongoing operation of the Association for Women Geoscientists.
The Association for Women Geoscientists was officially founded in 1977 with approxiamtely 50 members in the Bay area of San Francisco. The first chapter formed in 1979 when a group in Denver became associated with the San Francisco group. The Bay area, at first, served as national headquarters for the organization as regional groups developed into recognized chapters. The Association, now headquartered at Menlo Park, Ca., has the following goals: 1)To encourage the participation of women in the geosciences, 2)To exchange technical, professional, and educational information, and 3) To enhance the professional growth and advancement of women in the geosciences.
