Robert Furman papers, 1944-1985.
The papers of Robert R. Furman consist of correspondence, diary notes, notebooks, and miscellaneous manuscript material. This collection includes documentation of Furmans service with the Manhattan Project; his participation in the delivery of uranium to Tinian Island for assembly into the atomic bomb destined for Hiroshima, Japan, including his diary notes and post-mission interviews; and his participation in the Alsos Mission, to monitor the German nuclear weapons program.
American engineer. Worked with General Leslie M. Groves, on the Manhattan Project; involved with the Alsos Mission to investigate German nuclear capabilities; delivered nuclear components to Tinian Island for final assembly of the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima, Japan (1945).
