Mainly concerns Lyman's work at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Radiation Laboratory during World War II. Brief discussion of childhood, more lengthy discussion of his educational background, research at the University of Illinois, his involvement with the Rad Lab, the work of the Steering Committee there, the impact of the Rad Lab on his career, the influence of Fred Seitz at Illinois and the interaction of the military with the Rad Lab scientists.
(1910-1990) MS from Dartmouth College (1933), PhD in nuclear physics from University of California - Berkeley (1938); assistant professor at University of Illinois (1938-1990). During World War II worked at the Radiation Laboratory at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) where he developed radar.
