American Physical Society. Annual Meeting (2008: New Orleans, La)
50th anniversary of Physical Review Letters [audiorecording], March 2008.
Audiorecording of session J2 of the 2008 APS March meeting, held in New Orleans, Louisiana. This session was sponsored by the American Physical Society (APS) Forum on the History of Physics, chaired by Reinhardt Schuhmann. Presentations include: "PRL at 50: A history of moving physics forward" (speaker: Saad E. Hebboul); "Phase Transitions and Critical Phenomena" (speaker: H. Eugene Stanley); "Condensed Matter Theory: From Models to First Principles" (speaker: Marvin Cohen); "NMR [nuclear magnetic resonance] and the BCS [Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer] Theory" (speaker: Charles P. Slichter); "The Future of Scientific Publishing" (speaker: Jack Sandweiss).
This professional society of educators, industrial and government research workers, and students of physics and related fields, was established in 1899 to promote the advancement and diffusion of the knowledge of physics.
