Reed College (Portland, Or.) Physics Department.
Reed College Physics Department histories, 2000-2005.
Two volumes produced by Reed College, titled "Physics Department Self-Study, Reed College" and "History of the Reed College Physics Department." The "Self-Study" from the Fall of 2005 offers information on the structure of the department, the types of students who participate in the physic programs, current curriculum and changes in recent history, and staffing history and faculty appointments. The "History" was written in 2000 by Maya Muir, and covers the evolution of the department from 1911 to 2000, including lists of physics faculty, index of alumni and their thesis topics, changes in curriculum, teaching style and the role of research in the department.
Reed College Physics Department , located in Portland, Oregon, was founded in the same year the college opened, in 1911. The department was founded by Karl Taylor Compton, who then passed the administration to Ansel Knowlton in 1915 (where he served on the faculty for 33 years). Reed College is a college of liberal arts and sciences, and the physics department serves not only the physics majors, but the students who plan careers in related disciplines (astrophysics, biophysics, engineering, computer science, oceanography, and environmental science).
