Includes departmental records: annual reports, organizational structures, meeting minutes and internal memoranda, 1930-1970; curriculum materials: course outlines, exams, syllabi, lab manuals, selected lab notebooks, 1925-1979; and undergraduate theses, 1872-1976 (topics: magnetism, dielectrics, cosmic rays, ultrasonics, electricity, etc.).
Physics was required of students at the founding of the Institute in 1868. Students were required to write undergraduate theses in their major field of study, and the first thesis in Physics dates back to 1872. It was the last department which required submission of theses, with the most recent dating 1976.
