Ramachandran, G. N., 1922-
Theses 1940-1950.
Collection consists of Ramachandran's three theses having to do with his work in crystallography before he began applying the technique to biomolecules. Topics include: optics of heterogeneous media (M. Sc. thesis) Madras University; determination of elastic constants of crystals from measurements of diffuse x-ray reflections (Ph. D., Cambridge University); and thermo-optic behavior of solids (D. Sc., Madras University).
G. N. Ramachandran, the crystallographer after whom "Ramachandran plots" are named, is considered the founder of the discipline of biophysics in India. He was professor at the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore and headed the Centre for Mathematical Philosophy.
