Houghton, J. T. (John Theodore), 1931-2020
Sir John Houghton papers, 1960-2015.
The papers include reports, papers and correspondence (often printed e-mails and fax messages) concerning John Houghton's involvement in the work of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), the United Nations' body for scientific assessment of the effect of human activity on the world's climate. A series on IPCC Reports of 1990, 1995 and 2001 contains papers, correspondence, memoranda, reports, cuttings or copies of press articles, and responses made to these by Houghton or the IPCC. Correspondents featuring prominently include Dr. Bruce Callander of the Technical Support Unit for Working Group I (Meteorological Office, Bracknell) and Professor Bert Bolin (Chairman of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, 1988 to 1997). This series also contains a number of files of papers, press articles and correspondence expressing views on climate change (its nature, extent, causes or solutions) differing from or sceptical of the position of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, often along with John Houghton's annotations or responses.
